Two nurses and a pump boat operator were rescued Wednesday after their boat capsized off an island in Carles, Iloilo.
The nurses were identified as Maisiel Jane Sernicula and Gielen Joy Bandojo, both working at Department of Health (DOH) and assigned at Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Carles. They were aboard the MMK motorized banca together with owner Joemarie Francisco.
Junjie Pamplona of Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said that the nurses came from island barangay of Buenavista, Carles to conduct immunization. Their boat was hit by the squall or strong gust of wind while sailing back to Bancal Port in the mainland.
A trawler boat passing in the area spotted them and immediately helped in the rescue. They were then transferred to a tourist boat which brought the victims to the port.
All of them are now safe and in relatively good condition. (Photos by Lovely Joy Castillo)
